Over the past years I've helped a few fusers to diagnose and solve problem with their kilns.
For many fusers - a kiln is a magik glass-melting box - and its operation (correctly or otherwise) isn't well understood.
This document is an attempt to explain how kilns work, as a preliminary to another document I'm writing which will hopefully help people whose kilns aren't working - to get them working again <grin>
